The Basics Of Roach Control & Extermination

Roach control & extermination methods are specifically selected based on the species of roach that is confirmed to be the problem. Different roaches have different preferences for habitat and behavior, which means that our cockroach control & killer programs can be specialized to target the problematic species, and more than just that one type of roach, with our treatment.

To help our clients, here is a description of the physical appearance of the typical roach species you can expect to see in the Tampa, FL.

American Cockroach

This is the most common roach species and exists in the most places around the world. It is sometimes referred to as the Palmetto bug and can be found both indoors and outdoors. It has fully developed wings, can fly short distances, and is reddish brown in color, with a yellow ring around the prothorax. This cockroach is often mistaken for the Oriental Roach, which looks similar, but is much smaller than the American roaches.

Brown-Banded Cockroach

The brown-banded cockroach is typically found indoors and is actually a newer addition to the Tampa, FL. It has a low moisture requirement so it can be found anywhere in the house. It is distinguished by two strips of a lighter brown color across the top of the thorax.

Cuban Roach

The Cuban Roach is a light green colored roach. It typically prefers to be flying around outdoors and is attracted to lights in the home or yard.

German Roach

Another very common roach species in this area is the German Roach, a tan to brown color, smaller sized roach, sometimes referred to as the water bug. Though this roach species does not fly, they are very hardy eaters and will consume a wide range of materials in the home.
